Create your own Boobs

Thank you for participating in The Keep A Breast Foundation’s Treasured Chest Program. Whether you paint your cast yourself or have an artist donate their time and talent, here are a few suggestions and tips to help make your cast amazing! If you have any questions please email shaneyjo@keep-a-breast.org.

PAINTING YOUR CAST

You have the artistic freedom to paint and decorate your cast any way you like but for the best results:

• Apply at least two coats of paint (this helps seal the plaster to make it stronger and last longer).
• Be careful when adding anything too big or heavy to the cast, it makes it unstable and hard to display.
• Acrylic paint works best.
• If you want a smooth surface use sand paper to sand your cast.
• A few coats of Gesso make a really nice base or a simple water based house paint.
• Many artists paint the inside of the cast as well to make the piece complete.
• Finish your cast by applying a clear coat.
• Don’t forget to sign and date your cast.

Most importantly, have fun and don’t forget to share with us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/treasuredchestprogram or http://www.facebook.com/keepabreast. Be sure to #hashtag us in your Instagram photos as well with #treasuredchest, #keepabreast, and #breastcast.

Hi!

Thank you for applying to the Keep A Breast and Young Survival Coalition Treasured Chest Program.
Your Treasured Chest Kit is on it's way, I just got back yesterday from a long trip to Chile, so I apologize to those of you that have been waiting for so long.

Please see attached welcome letter and artist instructions for your finished cast.

Treasured Chest program strives to give Newly Diagnosed Women a way to document their body and their feelings at a specific time in their life (i.e. after losing a breast or being told they have breast cancer, or testing positive for the BRCA1 or 2 gene).  We continuously work to harness the power of art to communicate complex feelings and thoughts about health, the female form and ultimately about breast cancer through our education and awareness programs.
The Treasured Chest program will allow you to approach the casting process in the privacy of your own home and the freedom to use the cast in your own dramatically different way.
Program Objectives:
*Allow self-expression, exploration and the opportunity to deal with sensitive issues surrounding a Breast Cancer diagnosis.
*Use the casting process and art as tools of expression for Newly Diagnosed women. Allow the opportunity to tell their unique story through a one-of-a-kind work of art.
*Empower Newly Diagnosed women and allow them to have fun, laugh and be creative.
*Decrease the sense of isolation a person feels when they are first diagnosed with breast cancer.
*Create a community for Breast Cancer Survivors.
Please be sure to FRIEND the Treasured Chest program on Facebook!
Share your phot'o's and experience along the way.
Thank you!
Have a beautiful day!

Art. Education. Awareness. Action.

The Keep A Breast Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to eradicate breast cancer for future generations. We provide support programs for young people impacted by cancer and educate people about prevention, early detection, and cancer-causing toxins in our everyday environment. Among our long list of diverse programs, I would like to highlight one that is near and dear to me. As a 7-year breast cancer survivor myself, I know first hand the roller coaster of emotions that accompany a breast cancer diagnosis. The Keep A Breast /Young Survival Coalition Treasured Chest Program enabled me to see the beauty in my own form.

Keep A Breast recognizes that newly diagnosed women may be facing a dramatic physical change due to loss of a breast (mastectomy), partial removal of the breast (lumpectomy), shrinkage of a breast caused by radiation or a positive testing of the BRCA1 or 2 genes. Although others diagnosed with breast cancer will not undergo these procedures, the psychological changes that accompany diagnosis are just as significant. The KAB/YSC Treasured Chest program gives any woman who is diagnosed with breast cancer an opportunity to document her body and feelings by turning her casted torso into a beautiful work of art. The Keep A Breast Foundation Breast Casts™ are one-of-a-kind plaster forms that combine sculpture and symbolic artistry. They communicate complex emotions about breast health and the female body, allowing the castee to capture a specific point in her breast cancer journey.

PLEASE SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH US on our Facebook page. We want to see pictures of you being casted as well as your finished cast on http://www.facebook.com/treasuredchestprogram                   or http://www.facebook.com/keepabreast. Be sure to #hashtag us in your Instagram photos as well with #treasuredchest, #keepabreast, and #breastcast.
