Breast Cancer Research at the Dubin Breast Center

In addition to providing excellence in all facets of breast cancer care, the Dubin Breast Center’s mission includes tirelessly pursuing better outcomes for breast cancer patients. The Dubin Breast Cancer was designed to foster interdisciplinary and translational breast cancer research to help achieve this goal.

By housing multiple breast care services – breast surgery, breast medical oncology, breast radiology, as well as an infusion center – under one roof, the Center brings together medical professionals from different disciplines, creating unique opportunities for collaboration. This kind of close interaction fosters a spirit of collegiality, which also extends to our research initiatives, many of which are collaborative in nature. Dubin Breast Center and Tisch Cancer Institute faculty members have a wide range of breast cancer research projects

Some of these research projects include:

• A high-risk surveillance program for individuals who are known to be at high risk for developing breast cancer
• Identifying the causes of breast cancer
• Studying the reasons for disparities in breast cancer treatment
• Finding novel approaches to treating breast cancer
• Understanding breast cancer dormancy
• Finding new ways to prevent and diagnose breast cancer
• Evaluating the safety and efficacy of new and existing breast cancer treatments through clinical trials

Breast Cancer Clinical Trials

At the Dubin Breast Center, qualified patients may participate in clinical research studies (some of which are multicenter studies that take place in institutions throughout the nation) that are helping to develop novel treatments and diagnostics. Participation in clinical trials offers patients a chance to receive a new treatment that might otherwise be unavailable and opens the door to a means of continuously improving the standard of care for breast cancer patients. Our physicians work closely with partners in the pharmaceutical industry as well as cooperative groups through the National Cancer Institute such as Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology,Cancer and Leukemia Group B, American College of Radiology Imaging Network, and others to evaluate these new therapies in the setting of clinical trials.
